I try to approach quilt designing like I would approach photography, drawing, or painting, with the use of basic art and design principles.
Many of my quilts begin as sketches of ideas. These often change on the design wall. Seeing the actual fabric on the wall and evaluating its placement for scale, value, color, and proportion helps me strengthen my vision of the finished quilt.
Using bright colors or strong contrast and including multiple design elements tends to keep me interested in completing my projects. I always want to know: “Is it going to look how I imagined it?"
